Yay! You get to read about vacuums!!!
Almost 3 years ago Mike and I bought a Kirby vacuum. For those of you who know how much they cost, I'm sure you're thinking "what idiots." To be honest, I had buyers remorse immediately after the salesman left our house considering the cost of our Kirby was the same as buying 20 really crappy Hoover vacuums or 3 Dyson vacuums. However, that remorse was shortly lived as I quickly realized how wonderful the Kirby made our standard (very cheap) carpet look. I wholly believe that our vacuum prevented us from having to include a carpet allowance when we sold our previous house...so really, the Kirby saved us money...right? Anyway, my point is not to try to justify the purchase of an over-priced vacuum, but to prove that the Kirby is just as good as a Rainbow vacuum.
How would I know that the Kirby is just as good? Well, I agreed last week to have the Rainbow demonstrated at our house to help a friend in our neighborhood win a Rainbow for herself. (She had to have at least 11 showings with one purchase.) I was pretty sure that this Rainbow salesperson wouldn't even come close in convincing me that I needed this $2500 vacuum.
I was wrong. Seriously, other than the fact that I don't believe I need to own over $4000 worth in vacuums, my laziness was the only thing that prevented me from trying to win a Rainbow for myself.
The Rainbow has some pretty cool features that my Kirby does not have. Such as it is an air purifier and it has an attachment that can blow up balloons--which is way cool.
I was also disturbed that it was pulling out massive amounts of dirt out of my carpet. Wasn't my Kirby supposed to do that? That's why we had bought the Kirby. Had Mike and I been duped? I'm sure we were, but I didn't want to think that.
After voicing my concerns to Mike and telling him that I thought our vacuum was in need of a tune-up, he pulled it out to figure out why it wasn't sucking the dirt out of our carpet as well as it used to (or was supposed to). Much to our relief, Mike figured it was because I hadn't emptied the vacuum bag in months. (Like my pregnant brain was supposed to remember something like that.) I hadn't attached the bag properly either.
No wonder my carpet had been looking so crappy.
Anyway, Mike replaced it and began to vacuum our carpet that had been vacuumed by the Rainbow just 2 days before. We then checked the bag and were very pleased to see yet another massive amount of dirt and lint in the vacuum bag.
Yes, strange things make us happy.
Ultimately, I decided that the Kirby is the better vacuum. Why? Well, it costs about $900 less than the Rainbow. For $900 less I'll happily blow up my own balloons and I can live without the air purifier. The sucking power on both vacuums is about equal so if you have yourself a Rainbow, you have a way awesome vacuum; you just spent a whole lot more on yours than I did.
However, someone with a Dyson would probably tell me the same thing. :)
